Answers and sources
Read the answers behind every number, and see which sites AI engines cite for your market.
Reading an answer
Every number on the dashboard comes from answers you can read. Click a cell in the matrix to open the answers behind it: the full text as the engine gave it, with the brands it names highlighted, and the sources it cites. Next to the text you see what Botlum found: whether each tracked brand is mentioned, named first or cited, and how the language model read its sentiment and role.
Some engines also show the searches they ran to write the answer. When they do, Botlum shows them too. They tell you what the engine was looking for.
Sources
The Sources page lists the domains and pages that answers cite, with the share of answers citing each one, the engines that cite it, and when it was first and last seen. Each domain is sorted into a kind, so you can see where the engines take their facts from:
- Your brand: one of the project's domains.
- Competitor: a domain of a competitor you track.
- Community: written by users, such as forums, video, social networks and review sites.
- Marketplace: marketplaces and app stores.
- Editorial: publications and reference works with an editor.
- Other: everything else, such as sites of other brands, blogs and documentation.
Switch between domains and pages, and click a source to read the answers that cite it.
The source gap
Turn on Cited where competitors are named and you are not. The list then shows the sources of answers that name a competitor without naming you. These are the pages the engines rely on when they pick someone else. Getting onto them, through a review, a listing, a comparison or a correction, is usually the most direct way to start appearing.
When one of your own pages shows up in the gap, the engine read your site and still named a competitor. That page is the cheapest fix you will find: make it say clearly who you are and what you do.
Taking it elsewhere
Sources export to CSV, and both the answers and the sources are in the public API. See Reports, exports and share links.
